Lahore University Announces 100% Fee Waiver: Government College University (GCU) Lahore has announced a full tuition fee waiver for students with physical disabilities the decision was taken during the university 72nd Syndicate meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Muhammad Omer Chaudhry this move reflects the university’s commitment to inclusivity and providing equal educational opportunities to students with special needs.

New Academic Programs Introduced by GCU Lahore

During the same Syndicate meeting, GCU Lahore approved three new PhD programs, six MS/MPhil programs, and five new BS degrees including BS Computational Statistics and BS Criminology. These programs aim to meet both academic and industry demands while providing students with modern career-oriented courses.

The university also introduced specialized programs like BS and PhD in Molecular Biology, PhD in Accounting and Finance, MPhil in Genetics, MS in English Linguistics, MS and PhD in Pharmacology, MS in Artificial Intelligence, BS in Library and Information Sciences, MPhil in Peace and Conflict Studies, and BS in Public Administration. Additionally, corporate members were included in Boards of Studies to enhance collaboration between academia and industry.

The Syndicate approved several welfare measures for faculty, staff, and students. Health insurance policies were introduced, pending increments for TTS faculty were cleared, and summer semester pay was increased from Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 50,000. Visiting faculty and administrative staff in scales 1–16 will also receive enhanced compensation for extra hours and weekend work.

Other measures include reduced PhD fees for university employees, lower fees for overseas students, expanded access to daycare, and new policies to open sports facilities like gyms and swimming pools to external members. These initiatives aim to improve overall staff and student well-being while fostering a more supportive learning environment.
