Karachi University Removes Quota System
Karachi University Removes Quota System: The Public Accounts Committee has officially directed the University of Karachi to abolish its Karachi-Sindh-Pakistan (KSP) quota system that has been in place since 1990. The committee ordered the university to immediately shift to a full open-merit system based entirely on Sindh domicile.

During a high-level meeting chaired by PAC Chairman Nisar Khuhro, senior officials including the Sindh Higher Education Secretary and KU’s acting Vice Chancellor reviewed concerns raised in audit reports from 2021 to 2023. The committee concluded that separating Karachi from Sindh for admissions was unjustified and must be discontinued.

How This Decision Will Affect Students in Sindh
With the end of the KSP quota, students across Sindh will now compete under a unified merit-based admission policy at the University of Karachi. This major shift is expected to create equal opportunities for students from all districts, eliminating long-standing disparities.
Officials added that the new policy will align KU with other universities like NED University, which already follows a standard test-based system. The PAC has asked KU to submit a progress report in the next meeting to ensure implementation.
